The Atlanta Regional Commission serves as the regional planning and intergovernmental coordination agency, addressing pivotal issues that impact the region's success, such as growth and development, transportation, water resources, services for older adults, and workforce solutions.

Role Overview
The Senior Water Resource Planner will spearhead the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District's initiatives focused on water efficiency, planning, and policy development. This role involves facilitating stakeholder groups comprising water resource professionals, staying informed on current and proposed regulatory changes, and providing technical assistance to communities across the 15-county region.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead collaborative efforts with local government technical staff to create programs and materials that address regional and local educational needs.
- Act as the subject matter expert for the District's Technical Assistance Program (TAP) on water conservation and efficiency, supporting the implementation of the Water Resources Management Plan.
- Develop and deliver workshops and capacity-building offerings in collaboration with internal and external partners.
- Assist in formulating the water conservation and efficiency strategies for the District's upcoming plan, projected for completion in 2027.
- Facilitate the District's water conservation technical coordinating committee, comprising utilities and local governments.
- Assess new technologies, policies, and practices to enhance water efficiency through ongoing research.
- Promote indoor and outdoor water efficiency through both voluntary and mandatory standards and codes.
- Evaluate existing practices to support implementation, develop best practices, and identify areas for reconsideration.
- Support local initiatives aimed at optimizing the use of existing water supplies and distribution systems.
- Enhance the District's visibility at regional and national levels through targeted efforts.
- Stay updated on national trends in water conservation and efficiency best practices.
- Provide policy recommendations on water management and integrated water resources management by coordinating with relevant stakeholders, including the District's Technical Coordinating Committee and Basin Advisory Council.
- Contribute planning and policy insights on water resource challenges affecting the metro Atlanta region, such as drought management and sustainability.
- Manage the District's rebate programs effectively.
- Supervise and assign tasks to temporary or contract staff as needed.
- Attend various regional meetings and deliver presentations at ARC or partner agency committees and board meetings, with some commitments occurring outside of standard business hours.
- Collaborate with ARC's climate resilience planning team to implement strategies for climate change adaptation and resilience in the Atlanta region.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support agency objectives.

Qualifications
- A Master's degree in urban or regional planning, economics, architecture, landscape architecture, or a related field.
- A minimum of three years of professional planning experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to fulfill the essential duties of the position.

Skills and Knowledge
- Expertise in the efficient and sustainable use of natural resources, particularly water and energy.
- Familiarity with natural resource management, policy, and regulations.
- Interest in collaborating with government entities across metro Atlanta to assess water efficiency and conservation planning.
- Knowledge of drinking water regulations at federal, state, and local levels.
- Experience with Integrated Water Management principles.
- Ability to independently manage complex projects involving multiple stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in standard office software, including Microsoft Office.
