Job Summary

AM General LLC is seeking a highly skilled Logistics Director to lead our Material Planning and Logistics team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to optimize our logistics and material planning processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Negotiate Contracts

Conduct negotiations with transportation carriers to secure cost-effective contracts and possess a comprehensive understanding of delivery methods and required equipment.

Oversee Logistics Operations

Oversee corporate management of all military shipments and ensure full compliance with shipping regulations, including HAZMAT and ITAR for international deliveries.

Inventory Management

Ensure overall system integrity regarding inventory levels and the accuracy of the bill of materials.

Supply Chain Management

Ensure the planning, tracking, and delivery of parts/goods into AMG's production facilities.

Supplier Management

Proactively communicate with suppliers to ensure the timely delivery of such components.

Reporting and Analysis

Develop reports to track on-time delivery of parts and any exceptions.

Team Leadership

Lead cross-functional engagement to drive resolution of any exceptions to ensure timely delivery of parts/goods; escalate potential risks of components not arriving on time and lead resolution.

Process Improvement

Develop continuous improvement strategies to streamline material planning operations.

SAP Utilization

Lead material planning team to utilize SAP as the source of truth for all anticipated material receipt dates.

Reporting and Analysis

Work with IS&S to continuously improve material planning reporting functions utilizing SAP data.

Bill of Materials Management

Identify potential issues with the Bill of Materials.

Contract Negotiation

Negotiate cost-effective contracts with transportation carriers.

Delivery Method Management

Understand and manage delivery methods and required equipment.

Freight Management

Manage domestic and international freight.

Cost Management

Monitor transportation costs and adjust the carrier pool as required.

Logistics Operations

Develop continuous improvement strategies to streamline logistics operations.

Shipping Compliance

Manage all corporate military shipments.

Regulatory Compliance

Ensure compliance with shipping regulations, including HAZMAT and ITAR for international deliveries.

Legal Review

Obtain legal review and approval for AMG transportation.

Regulatory Compliance

Ensure all shipments meet ITAR and federal regulations.

Reporting

Maintain daily/weekly operating reports.

Performance Tracking

Track department performance against the budget.

Cost Savings

Drive cost-saving initiatives to achieve key performance indicators (KPIs).

Process Reviews

Perform periodic process reviews and employee skills evaluations.

Material Disposition

Disposition of obsolete and defective materials.

Employee Development

Provide training and monitor employee development.

Team Supervision

Supervises AM General's material planning and logistics team members.

Requirements
  • Education

Bachelor's degree in Materials, Supply Chain, or a related field is preferred.

Experience

5+ years in a leadership role.

Industry Experience

5+ years of experience in the transportation industry.

Field Experience

10 years of experience in materials, supply chain, or a related field is required.

Supervisory Experience

5+ years of supervisory experience.

Leadership

Demonstrated leadership in logistics.

Supplier Relations

Proven ability to develop strong relations with suppliers.

Accuracy and Organization

Strong accuracy and organizational skills, including problem-solving abilities.

Communication

Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

Software Proficiency

Proficiency in MS Office software.

SAP Experience

Experience with SAP is required.

Government Systems

Familiarity with government-based systems such as GFM and WAWF is necessary.

Customer Service

Strong customer service skills.

Working Conditions
  • Physical Location

This position operates between an office and manufacturing plant environment and is often assigned to a specific shift or hours. The Employee must be able to perform job functions in an environment with varying difficult work conditions such as extreme cold, heat, inclement weather, at heights, and/or while exposed to constant/intermittent loud noises This position will be at TEC but may require some travel to the plants.

Teamwork

This position will work with others to ensure efficiency in the workplace.

Listening Skills

This position will need to understand how to use machinery properly and safely to prevent accidents and ensure all tasks are completed accurately. This position will require good communication and paying attention to detail.

Ability to Follow Instructions

Managers assign tasks and responsibilities, which vary; this position should be able to follow instructions competently.

Methodical Approach

Production lines follow a set process, so this position needs a methodical approach to ensure all tasks are completed in the correct order for a smooth-running production line.

  • Concentration

This position may perform the same or similar tasks repeatedly, so a strong level of concentration when carrying out these tasks is important for quality control purposes. This role is often fast paced, so being able to maintain focus at all times is important.

Travel Requirements

Up to 25% travel may be required.
