JOB PURPOSE:

The Accounting Manager role is pivotal in supporting the Controller and leading the accounting team. This position encompasses responsibilities such as grant accounting, budget formulation, compliance with regulations, and ensuring the accuracy of financial operations. The manager will also oversee specific contracts related to financial reporting and contribute to the strategic planning of accounting policies while maintaining robust internal controls.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee general accounting operations.
  • Contribute to organizational strategies by providing financial insights and recommendations.
  • Ensure timely completion of ledger accounts and financial statements.
  • Enhance internal accounting processes to align with organizational goals.
  • Coordinate budget preparation and provide financial projections.
  • Lead and mentor accounting staff.
  • Manage cash flow forecasts and obligations.
  • Prepare monthly compliance reports for funding sources.
  • Verify and record all transactions according to standards.
  • Develop and analyze budgets, comparing projected costs to actual expenses.
  • Examine financial records for accuracy and compliance.
  • Reconcile discrepancies in accounts.
  • Prepare necessary journal entries.
  • Oversee accounts payable processes and vendor communications.
  • Conduct bank and cash reconciliations.
  • Analyze financial trends and provide insights for future planning.
  • Assist with various audits and financial reporting.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Familiarity with government accounting principles and grant reporting.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.
  • Experience in nonprofit accounting software is a plus.
  • Previous supervisory experience is essential.
  • CPA designation is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Valid Driver's License and appropriate auto insurance.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination.
  • COVID vaccination is required, with exemptions available upon request.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The role involves working in a standard office environment with moderate noise levels. Physical requirements include normal vision and hearing, the ability to stand or sit for extended periods, and occasional lifting of items up to 25 pounds.
