PACE is a dedicated community nonprofit organization established to deliver job training and placement services tailored for the Asian Pacific Islander communities in Los Angeles. Over the years, PACE has broadened its scope to include various service areas designed to address the evolving needs of the diverse communities in Los Angeles County. In addition to job training and employment services, PACE's significant programs include: business development; early childhood education (Head Start); financial literacy and asset development; housing and rehabilitation services; energy efficiency programs; and affordable housing initiatives. Annually, PACE impacts the lives of over 60,000 individuals through its comprehensive services, supported by a team of approximately 350+ staff members. PACE is recognized for its leadership in tackling poverty and economic disparity within ethnic minority communities, known for its responsiveness to community needs and innovative solutions to the challenges faced by its clients.

JOB PURPOSE:

The Senior Accountant role is integral to supporting the Controller and other Fiscal Officers, contributing to the accounting team. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: grant accounting and reporting, allocation of shared costs, budget formulation, and ensuring adherence to Uniform Administrative Requirements and contractual obligations. This position also entails monitoring daily cash flow to guarantee adequate liquidity. Responsibilities further include performing reconciliations and ensuring timely posting of month-end and year-end accruals to the general ledger. Accurate and timely preparation of various financial statements and grant reports for funding sources is essential.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist the Fiscal Officer in generating monthly reports to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and contractual funding regulations.
  • Verify and record all transactions in accordance with accounting standards and government regulations.
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual expenditures.
  • Prepare, examine, or analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and compliance with reporting standards.
  • Review accounts for discrepancies and reconcile variances.
  • Prepare adjusting journal entries as necessary.
  • Establish account tables and assign entries to appropriate accounts.
  • Manage Accounts Payable processes, including invoice processing, check issuance, and vendor communication.
  • Conduct bank and cash reconciliations.
  • Evaluate and inventory real property and equipment, documenting details such as description, value, and location.
  • Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to forecast future revenues and expenses or provide financial advice.
  • May supervise and review the work of accounting department staff in the absence of the Controller and Fiscal Officers while fulfilling other critical functions.
  • Assist in overall program accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting policies and procedures.
  • Support contract audits and corporate audits, including A-133 and SEFA.
  • Perform other accounting-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in accounting/bookkeeping within a fund accounting system.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel are essential.
  • Knowledge of principles outlined in Government Accounting manuals and familiarity with audit and reporting requirements for Federal, State, and local grants.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in nonprofit organizations and familiarity with MIP Fund Accounting is highly desirable.
  • Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License with adequate auto insurance.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination, including drug and alcohol screening.
