Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Life Safety Specialist to join our team at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. As a Life Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our guests and staff while on our premises.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prevent accidents and injuries through knowledge of life guarding and water safety skills.
  • Respond to emergency situations by means of visual and audio surveillance.
  • Stand for long periods of time and maintain continual concentration and attention to duties.
  • Identify emergency situations both visually and audibly, and respond accordingly.
  • Provide first aid and assistance within the scope of certified training and USSRC policies and procedures.
  • Report and record accurate information as required with regard to accidents, incidents, discipline, attendance, maintenance, and time on duty.
  • Have reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Report ready for work 5-10 minutes prior to assigned shift.
  • Survey swimming facility and check staff information in the office.
  • Enforce all USSRC pool rules and policies in a courteous and tactful manner.
  • Reflect a positive image of the USSRC to the swimmers.
  • Actively participate in in-service trainings and staff meetings.
  • Keep all job-related certifications current for employment.
  • Perform light to moderate maintenance concerning the pool and surrounding areas when needed.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent required.
  • 1 year of formal education beyond high school preferred.
  • Ability to pass American Red Cross CPR and Lifeguard certification course within 30 days of hire.
  • Previous lifeguard experience preferred.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment in hot summer temperatures.
  • Ability to work extensively outdoors around small children.

Working Conditions

  • Walking, climbing to access equipment.
  • Carrying, lifting supplies, items up to 40 lbs.
  • Bending, kneeling, reaching to maintain equipment.
  • Sight, wrist movements, feeling to perform lifesaving duties.
  • Talking, hearing to communicate with employees and guests.
