Senior Counsel for AI Compliance

Position Overview
The Legal Department at Amazon is seeking a skilled attorney to provide guidance on regulatory compliance and strategic initiatives related to artificial intelligence within Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS is at the forefront of offering diverse AI and machine learning solutions for cloud clients, enabling developers to innovate and deploy AI systems effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Assessing legal risks and recommending strategies for mitigation;
- Providing counsel on regulatory compliance, privacy, intellectual property, and market entry strategies;
- Contributing to business strategy discussions;
- Evaluating and shaping AI/ML policy perspectives globally.
This role presents the opportunity to collaborate with various stakeholders, including teams focused on privacy, public relations, and public policy.
You will be tasked with formulating strategies to address legal challenges in innovative, business-oriented ways, while establishing processes that manage risk and facilitate rapid business growth. The ideal candidate will possess a curious mindset, a passion for technology, and a strong work ethic, demonstrating sound judgment in complex situations. Legal professionals at Amazon are integral to the business, engaging in intellectually stimulating and dynamic work. Crafting creative solutions to unique legal challenges is a core aspect of our operations. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience, including equity options.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in AI, technology, or regulatory compliance strategy;
- Ability to function independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams;
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
- Practical business acumen;
- Strong organizational capabilities, with the ability to juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Minimum Requirements
- 5+ years of legal practice experience;
- Juris Doctor degree and membership in a state bar or equivalent;
- Experience in both corporate law firms and in-house legal departments.

Our compensation reflects the labor market across various US regions. The base salary for this role ranges from $138,500 to $229,000, depending on geographic location and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon offers a comprehensive compensation package that may include equity, sign-on bonuses, and a full suite of medical and financial benefits.
