Overview: Amazon's Legal Department seeks a skilled attorney to provide legal support for our artificial intelligence (AI) public policy, regulatory compliance, and responsible AI initiatives for Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS delivers a diverse array of AI and machine learning (ML) services to cloud customers, enabling developers to create, train, and implement AI systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Evaluate proposed AI legislation, regulations, and guidelines, offering insights on legal and business implications.
  2. Formulate policy stances on the ethical use of AI and compliance matters.
  3. Assist in external policy discussions and engagements.
  4. Act as a leader on innovative policy, responsible AI, and compliance challenges throughout the lifecycle of AI system development and deployment.

Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate will devise strategies to address policy and legal challenges in inventive, business-oriented manners, while establishing processes that empower stakeholders to innovate and scale efficiently. A successful candidate will be curious, passionate about technology, enjoy tackling complex challenges, and exhibit sound judgment in uncertain circumstances. Legal professionals at Amazon are integral to the business, engaging in intellectually stimulating, dynamic, and fast-paced work. Crafting innovative solutions to unique legal dilemmas is a core aspect of our daily operations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in AI, technology, or policy and regulatory compliance strategy.
  • Ability to operate independently and collaboratively within a cross-functional team.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Practical business acumen and judgment.
  • Strong organizational abilities, with a capacity to manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring follow-through and adherence to deadlines.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years of legal experience.
  • Juris Doctor degree and membership in one state bar or equivalent.
  • A blend of experience in both corporate law firms and in-house legal environments.

Compensation: Our compensation reflects the labor costs across various US geographic markets. The base salary for this role ranges from $118,400/year in our lowest geographic market to $195,700/year in our highest geographic market. Compensation is influenced by several factors, including market location, and may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company, and depending on the position, equity, sign-on bonuses, and other forms of compensation may be included as part of a comprehensive compensation package, alongside a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
