Lead Environmental Project Scientist

Position Overview:

Our Environmental division is actively seeking a qualified Lead Environmental Geologist or Scientist. The ideal candidate will be adept at overseeing medium to large-scale environmental initiatives encompassing diverse scopes of service. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting thorough reviews and analyses of various data sets to establish requirements for achieving environmental, geological, and engineering goals.
  • Maintaining effective communication with clients, regulatory bodies, and external stakeholders.
  • Applying expertise in principles and practices across a broad spectrum of assignments and related fields.
  • Calculating project costs and assessing feasibility based on data analysis.
  • Preparing or overseeing the preparation and revision of environmental impact assessments, reports, specifications, plans, and designs.
  • Independently addressing technical matters related to environmental and geological projects.
  • Innovating and implementing new methodologies and procedures.
  • Providing technical guidance and support to fellow professionals.
  • Identifying complex problems and proposing strategic approaches for resolution.
  • Planning, executing, and leading significant projects that are complex in nature.
  • Utilizing professional judgment to conduct research and data analysis.
  • Preparing or directing the creation of reports and maps, interpreting research findings, and recommending further actions.
  • Overseeing soil testing and groundwater monitoring and sampling activities.
  • Employing advanced techniques and extending theories and practices in geology and related disciplines.
  • Offering mentorship and supervision to junior geologists and scientists.
  • Managing one or more team members effectively.

Candidate Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a B.S. degree in Geology or Environmental Science (or equivalent). A Licensed Site Remediation Professional license is REQUIRED. Candidates must demonstrate expertise in NJDEP documentation preparation, submittals, and compliance, along with 10-15+ years of experience in site investigations and remediation at ISRA, RCRA, UST, or CERCLA sites involving solid waste, soil, and groundwater.

Familiarity with soil, vapor, and groundwater sampling techniques, various drilling methods, and strong technical writing skills for regulatory report preparation are essential. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil3D is preferred. Knowledge of federal, state, and county regulatory frameworks is necessary, along with current 40-hour OSHA Health & Safety training. A physical examination is a condition of employment for this role.
