Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Police Communications Operator to join our team at The University of Texas at Austin. As a key member of our emergency response team, you will be responsible for accurately tracking the status and location of emergency personnel using complex computer software.

You will also be responsible for monitoring and acknowledging various alarms, including security access systems, fire alarm systems, security cameras, closed-circuit televisions, teletype, and TDD systems. Additionally, you will receive calls for police or other university services, including those originating from emergency telephones and 911 systems.

As a Police Communications Operator, you will be required to obtain information quickly and accurately, receive and transmit radio messages and other information to the police or other university personnel, and perform other related functions as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Accurately track the status and location of emergency personnel using complex computer software.
  • Monitor and acknowledge various alarms, including security access systems, fire alarm systems, security cameras, closed-circuit televisions, teletype, and TDD systems.
  • Receive calls for police or other university services, including those originating from emergency telephones and 911 systems.
  • Obtain information quickly and accurately, receive and transmit radio messages and other information to the police or other university personnel.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school graduation or GED.
  • Ability to complete and review forms in detail with accuracy and in a timely manner.
  • Must hold or obtain a TCOLE Telecommunicator license within 1 year of hire.
  • Must be U.S. Citizen.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous telecommunication operator experience.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English.
Working Conditions

Uniforms and/or personal protection equipment (furnished). May work in all weather conditions. May work in extreme temperatures. May work around standard office conditions. May work around electrical and mechanical hazards. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Use of manual dexterity. Climbing of stairs. Lifting and moving. Physical effort required. Able to stand or walk for up to 16 hrs. Lift up to 50lbs.

Work Shift Work shifts are typically 6:00 am-6:00 pm or 6:00 pm-6:00 am, however applicants must be able to work extended hours (during special events, etc) outside normal working hours as well.

Must be able to work irregular shifts, weekends, and holidays.
