Position Summary

The educational institution is in search of a dedicated and empathetic School Social Worker to enhance the social, emotional, and academic growth of students. The successful candidate will deliver direct support to students, collaborate with educational staff, and link families to community resources. This role is vital in creating a nurturing school atmosphere and overcoming obstacles to student achievement.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Student Assistance:
    • Offer individual and group counseling for students facing social, emotional, or behavioral difficulties.
    • Evaluate student needs and formulate intervention plans to bolster their social and emotional health.
    • Guide students in cultivating social skills, coping mechanisms, and problem-solving techniques.
  2. Crisis Management:
    • Address crisis situations by providing immediate support to students and staff as necessary.
    • Collaborate with students and families to create safety plans and connect them with suitable resources.
    • Partner with school leadership and staff to effectively manage crises.
  3. Collaboration and Advisory:
    • Engage closely with educators, administrators, and other school personnel to identify and assist students requiring social work services.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary teams, including IEP and 504 plan discussions, to devise and implement suitable supports for students.
    • Advise teachers and staff on social-emotional learning and classroom management techniques.
  4. Family and Community Involvement:
    • Act as a bridge between the school, families, and community organizations to ensure comprehensive support for students.
    • Connect families with community services, including mental health support, housing aid, and food assistance programs.
    • Facilitate effective communication between the school and families to promote student success.
  5. Program Development:
    • Design and implement school-wide initiatives to foster a positive school culture and address challenges such as bullying, attendance, and mental health.
    • Lead or contribute to professional development sessions for staff on topics related to social-emotional learning and student welfare.
    • Assess and monitor the effectiveness of social work interventions and programs.
  6. Documentation and Compliance:
    • Maintain precise and confidential records of student services and interventions.
    • Prepare necessary reports and documentation as mandated by district and state regulations.
    • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and district policies concerning student services.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a School Social Worker endorsement.
  • Experience in a school environment, ideally with a diverse student demographic.
  • Strong knowledge of child development, social-emotional learning, and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Exceptional communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Capability to engage effectively with students, families, and staff from varied backgrounds.
