Position Overview
Delivers primary and/or specialized healthcare services across various environments; operates under physician supervision as mandated by state laws and adheres to the scope of practice established by the Nurse Practitioner's specialty certification, St. Louis Children's Hospital medical bylaws, and any existing collaborative practice agreements.

Job Responsibilities

Core Duties & Responsibilities
  • Delivers direct patient care, including gathering patient history, conducting assessments through observation, interviews, and examinations; orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic tests; conducts preventative health evaluations, screenings, immunizations, and care; formulates and executes patient-centered care plans in collaboration with physicians, patients, consultants, nurses, ancillary care providers, and others as appropriate to the patient's condition.
  • Manages health conditions through prescriptive authority or referrals to other healthcare professionals or community resources; may perform diagnostic or therapeutic procedures in accordance with certification and state regulations.
  • May bill for services in accordance with collaborative practice agreements.
  • Provides education and counseling to patients and their families/caregivers regarding preventative health, treatment alternatives, and community resources.
  • Ensures the accuracy of patient medical records; maintains all necessary reports, records, statistics, etc.
  • Creates a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families in line with established clinic/hospital standards.
  • Oversees management services for clinical research study projects; monitors participating subjects, including medication administration and family/patient education.
  • Adheres to established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Actively engages in continuous quality improvement and process enhancement activities aimed at delivering exceptional, evidence-based patient care.
  • Promotes professional growth and development through educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in inpatient hospital patient care is preferred.
Required Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner
  • Master of Science in Nursing with a focus on the Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Advanced Practical Nurse licensure or the ability to obtain licensure within three months of hire.
  • Additional certifications may be required based on specialty area.
  • Basic Life Support certification (Online Basic Life Support certifications without a skills assessment component do not meet the Basic Life Support requirements).
Or

Physician Assistant
  • Graduate of a PA program.
  • Current PA licensure to practice in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois depending on location or ability to obtain within three months of hire.
  • Additional certifications may be required based on specialty area.
  • Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications without a skills assessment component do not meet the BLS requirements).
Grade
S30-H

Salary Range
Base pay is commensurate with experience.

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade, and departmental budget considerations.

Pre-Employment Screening

The screenings will include a criminal background check and, as applicable for the position, other background checks, drug screening, employment and education or licensure/certification verification, physical examination, certain vaccinations, and/or governmental registry checks.
