Security and Safety Coordinator

As the demand for our services increases and becomes more intricate, Catholic Charities is committed to evolving and responding effectively. We address needs in three primary ways: preventing poverty, meeting essential needs during crises, and creating pathways out of poverty.
WAGE RANGE: $20.90-$24.40/hour
JOB SUMMARY: Catholic Charities seeks a culturally competent, trauma-informed, proactive, and self-driven individual to serve as a Security and Safety Coordinator. In this role, you will ensure safety and security across Catholic Charities facilities by addressing the needs of tenants, clients, guests, volunteers, and staff. Security and Safety Coordinators deliver exceptional customer service, engage in a trauma-informed manner during all interactions, and take proactive measures to avert incidents on Catholic Charities premises. You may encounter high-risk situations and will be expected to de-escalate conflicts involving customers, tenants, and guests.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Conduct regular patrols of designated areas within buildings and grounds, engaging with clients, tenants, volunteers, and guests to build positive relationships. Respond to service requests and complete any required shift documentation as instructed.
- Utilize effective interpersonal skills, a trauma-informed care approach, and de-escalation techniques to manage escalated situations, achieving genuine agreement and adhering to decisions and regulations.
- Employ appropriate responses to disengage from physical confrontations as necessary to ensure the safety of yourself and others during heightened situations.
- Identify, assess, and understand crisis intervention from the onset of an incident through to the initiation of recovery procedures.
- Exhibit the ability to provide service, tailoring approaches to reflect the diverse needs of the population served; customize responses to meet the specific needs of clients, tenants, and guests.
- Collaborate effectively with program staff in decision-making and response; promote a culture of improvement and innovative thinking.
- Occasionally provide coverage for breaks or other cross-functional roles within housing and emergency services desks. Participate in shift huddles with teams to discuss current issues and needs.
- Act as the primary contact for first responders arriving on site, following up after incidents. Assist in responding to alarms in tenant rooms alongside the housing team as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Two years of experience in customer service and security required.
- One year of experience in shelter or outreach preferred.
- CPI de-escalation and self-defense training preferred.
- Valid driver's license and a safe driving record that meets Catholic Charities insurance standards required.
- Basic computer skills desired.
- Ability to work irregular hours on short notice, including night and holiday shifts.
- Ability to engage with diverse and/or low-income populations, including those who may be experiencing homelessness, unstable housing, and/or mental health challenges required.
