About the Job

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing the full fleet of primary and secondary equipment within the assigned area, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives. This role oversees our Chesapeake VA Hauling facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Continually focus on achieving market-based profitability through effective management of all fleet and maintenance activities within the assigned area, including cost control, employee development, and high training and safety standards.
  • Review capital equipment requisitions in line with Corporate guidelines and objectives.
  • Ensure safe and reliable vehicles are available to meet operational requirements.
  • Manage effective utilization of vehicle assets.
  • Conduct fleet evaluations to ensure maintenance standards are met.
  • Ensure maintenance shops are adequately staffed and mechanics are properly trained.
  • Ensure vehicle management systems are effectively utilized.
  • Comply with and ensure adherence to Waste Management's Mission to Zero standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
  • Meet all financial review dates and corporate-directed programs in a timely fashion.
  • Assist in budget process as required.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the maintenance shops through regular inspections and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Oversee personnel needs of the department, including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Provide input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
  • Conduct and/or attend periodic driver/safety meetings to maintain favorable working relationships among all employees and promote maximum morale, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Provide training and presentations as needed in a positive and professional manner.
  • Update and submit required reports in a timely manner.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree (accredited) or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • 5 or 7 years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement).
  • Valid driver's license required.
