Position Overview

K1C is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with 2-5 years of experience in the medical device sector, possessing a unique blend of communication skills and technical knowledge to aid in the rollout of cutting-edge medical devices. This individual will be a collaborative innovator, working alongside K1C colleagues, client stakeholders, and partners to facilitate the development of new products.

Key Responsibilities

· Design, develop, modify, and validate mechanical components for medical devices.

· Create rapid prototypes and conduct bench testing to confirm designs with clients.

· Assist in problem-solving, root cause analysis, identifying potential solutions, and assessing them against requirements.

· Engage in product design tasks, including 3D modeling and electromechanical system design and prototyping.

· Produce technical drawings, data sheets, and schematics.

· Collaborate with senior engineers and management to swiftly address technical challenges and resolve project-related issues.

· Participate in design for manufacturing activities, including final part/assembly design, manufacturing process design, assembly procedures, and testing protocols.

· Develop test fixtures and methodologies to support design verification and validation.

· Compile detailed technical reports based on design verification analysis/testing for design modifications and product development activities.

Required Skills and Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline with 2 to 5 years of experience in product design and development.

· Established background in product design/development and manufacturing processes.

· Effective communication skills to facilitate successful collaborations with clients.

· Proficiency in CAD design, particularly with SolidWorks.

· Capability to create fully functional prototypes and fixtures utilizing skills in machining, 3D printing, electronics, and assembly technologies.

· Familiarity with various manufacturing techniques such as plastic injection molding, metal stamping, thermoforming, welding/brazing, plating, heat treating, bonding, and direct machine shop fabrication is advantageous.

· Knowledge of current standards and technologies in the medical device field, including ISO standards.

· Strong statistical and analytical abilities.

· Solid understanding of material properties and their applications.

· Exceptional technical writing, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex issues to non-technical personnel. Proficient in communicating with clinicians and healthcare professionals.

· General knowledge of good laboratory practices, common laboratory equipment, and safety protocols is preferred.

· Understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and the ability to create drawings for distribution to clients and suppliers.

· Experience in the medical device industry or a regulated environment is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

· Compensation: Salary will be determined based on multiple factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. Target salary range: $65,000 to $90,000.
