Position Summary:

The Junior Commissioning Engineer for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) will oversee the necessary activities for the commissioning and start-up phases, as well as warranty obligations for utility-scale BESS projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate site commissioning teams, ensuring that all construction testing and quality assurance documentation is compiled into comprehensive turnover documents for clients.
  • Monitor site commissioning tasks and provide regular updates to supervisors and clients.
  • Facilitate the safe energization of electrical systems in accordance with established procedures.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify and manage interconnection and documentation requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist in the preparation of turnover and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) documentation.
  • Organize and prioritize the tasks and deliverables of the site commissioning managers.
  • Coordinate on-site commissioning and performance evaluation activities.
  • Work with site personnel to implement and comply with the Safety Tagging, Lockout & Work Permit Program.
  • Collaborate with the Construction Manager to develop a comprehensive Punch List prior to the system/equipment handover to commissioning.
  • Manage the execution of project-specific commissioning plans and coordinate the handover of pre-commissioning documents.
  • Engage with the Owner's Operations Department to schedule necessary O&M training and support field specialists in commissioning and testing activities.
  • Assist with warranty requests for completed projects.
  • Utilize a company vehicle to oversee site operations effectively.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance as per the work schedule.
  • Adhere to the Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct, and all Company Policies & Procedures.
  • Promote a safety-first and quality-focused work culture.
  • Follow established safety protocols and report any unsafe conditions.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of NERC guidelines and ISO/TSO organization requirements is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with DCS/SCADA systems relevant to utility-scale BESS is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret and integrate contract documents and technical drawings.
  • Strong communication skills for effective interaction with both internal teams and clients.
  • Intermediate knowledge in utility-scale battery energy storage facility testing.
  • Experience with electrical design principles, including DC systems architecture.
  • Leadership and organizational skills, with a focus on problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in electrical utility-scale commissioning is preferred.
  • Experience in commissioning for Battery Storage systems is an asset.

Compensation and Benefits:

The anticipated salary range for this position is $69,000 - $89,000 annually, with final compensation determined by education, qualifications, experience, and work location. This role is eligible for bonuses.
