Position Overview:
The Radiology Intervention Specialist is responsible for conducting a range of imaging procedures while ensuring patient safety protocols are strictly followed. This role serves as the primary interface with patients, facilitating their imaging needs effectively. Participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities is also expected.

Key Responsibilities:


Assumes responsibility for the safety and care of patients undergoing treatment, utilizing equipment in a manner that minimizes risks such as electric shock, burns, and unnecessary radiation exposure.

Ensures safe handling and operation of imaging equipment.
Prepares and instructs patients for various interventional procedures.
Maintains adequate inventory levels of necessary supplies.
Selects appropriate equipment for each procedure.
Operates radiographic equipment safely and accurately to produce angiographic, digital, and other specialized images.

Demonstrates familiarity with life monitoring equipment and assists nursing staff in setting up the equipment for procedures.

Prepares and drapes patients using aseptic techniques.
Assists the radiologist in the manipulation of catheters and guide wires.
Determines the most suitable anatomical positions and applies shielding to patients as necessary.
Assesses patient discomfort that may interfere with imaging procedures and communicates with the physician for intervention.

Delivers comprehensive patient care in an environment that prioritizes safety and minimizes the risk of medical errors.

Injects contrast media in accordance with Radiology Policy.
Ensures proper technical factors are selected prior to image exposure.
Marks all images appropriately before transferring them to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
Programs portable or stationary x-ray machines and performs radiographic examinations as needed.
Enhances and annotates digital images prior to submission for radiologist review.
Adheres to medical and surgical aseptic procedures.
Handles billing and coding for various interventional procedures and associated equipment.
Assists in maintaining accurate records and reports.
Supports the training of students and ancillary personnel.
Participates in on-call duties as scheduled.
Engages professionally with patients, families, and staff.
Completes all assigned tasks competently and efficiently.
Demonstrates knowledge of local fire and safety regulations.
Understands hospital policies and the functions of other departments.
Provides care tailored to the condition and age of the patient, including neonate, pediatric, geriatric, and general populations.

Qualifications:
High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Graduation from an AMA accredited Radiologic Technology program, either college-affiliated or hospital-based.
Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
Licensed by the State of Maine to practice and administer radiation.
Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification required within one month of expiration.
A minimum of five years' experience as a Radiologic Technologist under a Board Certified Radiologist.
One year of experience in Interventional Radiology preferred.
Strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
