Position Overview:

The Radiology Intervention Specialist is responsible for executing a range of imaging procedures while ensuring patient safety protocols are strictly followed. This role serves as the primary interface with patients, facilitating their imaging requirements effectively. Additionally, participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives is expected.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of patients undergoing imaging procedures, utilizing equipment responsibly to mitigate risks such as electric shock, burns, and unnecessary radiation exposure.
  • Handle and operate imaging equipment safely and proficiently.
  • Prepare and instruct patients for various interventional imaging procedures.
  • Maintain adequate inventory levels of necessary supplies.
  • Select appropriate imaging equipment for specific procedures.
  • Operate radiographic equipment accurately to generate angiographic, digital, and specialized images.
  • Assist nursing staff with the setup of life monitoring equipment during procedures.
  • Employ aseptic techniques while prepping and draping patients.
  • Assist radiologists during procedures by managing catheters and guide wires.
  • Position patients correctly and apply shielding as needed.
  • Assess and address patient discomfort that may affect imaging procedures, contacting physicians when necessary.
  • Deliver comprehensive patient care in an environment that prioritizes safety and minimizes the risk of medical errors.
  • Administer contrast media in accordance with Radiology policies.
  • Ensure proper technical settings are established prior to image capture.
  • Verify that all images are accurately labeled before being transferred to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
  • Program and operate portable or stationary x-ray machines for various examinations as required.
  • Enhance and annotate digital images prior to radiologist review.
  • Adhere to medical and surgical aseptic protocols.
  • Assist with billing and coding for interventional procedures and associated equipment.
  • Support the maintenance of records and filing systems.
  • Contribute to the training of students and other personnel.
  • Participate in on-call duties as scheduled.
  • Engage professionally with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Complete all tasks efficiently and competently.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of local fire and safety regulations.
  • Understand hospital policies and interdepartmental functions.
  • Provide care tailored to the condition and age of patients, including neonates, pediatrics, geriatrics, and the general population.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Graduate from an AMA-accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Licensed to practice and administer radiation in the State of Maine.
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist under a Board Certified Radiologist.
  • One year of experience in Interventional Radiology preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
