AWOs play a crucial role in Corrections Victoria's commitment to addressing the over-representation of Aboriginal individuals in the criminal justice system, ensuring equitable justice outcomes for Aboriginal Victorians.
As an AWO, you will engage directly with Aboriginal individuals in custody, providing cultural, spiritual, and wellbeing support while coordinating cultural activities and programs. This role involves participating in the case management of Aboriginal prisoners, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to facilitate successful reintegration into the community.

- A comprehensive understanding of case management.
- A demonstrated knowledge of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, including societal and cultural issues.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals are eligible to apply.
- A Certificate of Aboriginality will be required prior to an employment offer.

Aboriginal candidates are encouraged to seek support from the Aboriginal Employment Team throughout the recruitment process for cultural guidance and assistance.
Commitment to Child Safety:
The Department of Justice and Community Safety is committed to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people. We strive to prevent any form of harm affecting children and young people and maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards racism, child abuse, and inequality. We recognize and respect the rights, relationships, identity, and culture of children and young people, ensuring their voices are heard and their concerns addressed.
