About the Program
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment holds the primary enforcement authority from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the federal Safe Drinking Water Act.

The Safe Drinking Water Program, part of the Water Quality Control Division, executes the Safe Drinking Water Act through Colorado's Primary Drinking Water Regulations.

The aim of the Safe Drinking Water Program is to ensure compliance oversight, provide assistance, financial support, and training to public water systems, ensuring they consistently deliver safe drinking water to the community.

The Local Assistance Unit, situated within the Community Development & Partnership section of the Safe Drinking Water Program, facilitates collaboration between the Division and Colorado's Water and Wastewater Facilities Operator Certification Board, offering operational support, coaching, and training to public water systems.

This unit also manages the development, execution, and compliance of the Drinking Water Revolving Fund capitalization grant set-asides, which fund various activities within the unit and across the division. Additionally, it coordinates Colorado's Water/Wastewater Agency Response Network (CoWARN).

About the Position
This role involves designing and delivering group training for small and/or rural clean water facilities, enabling them to effectively navigate the Water Quality Control Division's permitting processes and related activities, including engineering reviews and grants. The position collaborates with local communities and partner organizations to identify specific needs and empowers community board members, decision-makers, and engineering consultants to better understand the permitting process.

Minimum Qualifications
Option One:
Six (6) years of experience in water quality or a related environmental field, including responsibilities related to regulatory compliance.

Option Two:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in biology, chemistry, engineering, environmental science, geology, hydrology, or a closely related field, along with two years of experience in water quality or a related environmental field, including regulatory compliance responsibilities.

Substitutions:
Work experience in water quality or a related environmental field may substitute for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. An advanced degree in a relevant field may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Other Requirements:
Successful completion of a CDPHE pre-employment background check is required. Frequent in-state overnight travel may be necessary to provide training and hands-on assistance to water professionals (20%).
