Job Summary

The Respiratory Care Coordinator is a key member of the respiratory care team at UofL Health, responsible for coordinating and overseeing inter/intra-disciplinary education and onboarding of respiratory therapists. This role requires a strong understanding of current and evolving best practices, industry trends, and technological advancements that impact care administered by respiratory therapists.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and assist in onboarding/orienting employees.
  • Develop, coordinate, and present intradisciplinary education activities to support respiratory therapists' knowledge and skills.
  • Develop/assist in developing, coordinate, and present interdisciplinary education activities related to respiratory and pulmonary care.
  • Maintain understanding of current and evolving best practices, industry trends, and technological advancements that impact care administered by respiratory therapists.
  • Thoroughly understand clinical policies/protocols and recommend appropriate modifications.
  • Provide, or arrange for the provision of respiratory therapy education to patients and/or visitors.
  • Monitor respiratory therapists' relevant expiration dates (e.g., state license, AHA certificates, etc.) and aid in facilitating renewal when needed.
  • Facilitate mechanism for information cascade to respiratory therapists related to policy updates, best practice, and other relevant information.
  • Serve as a consultant/resource for members of the interdisciplinary care team (e.g., respiratory therapists, nurses, physicians, physician extenders, clinical pharmacists, etc.).
  • Provide clinical respiratory therapy services when needed.
  • Aid in facilitating active participation by respiratory therapists in interdisciplinary rounds.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • At a minimum, the incumbent shall have received the equivalent of an Associate's Degree in Cardiopulmonary Sciences or Respiratory Care from an accredited respiratory therapy educational program. A Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • The incumbent shall be distinguished as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC); such distinction shall be kept current (if applicable).
  • The incumbent shall hold an active license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner from the Kentucky Board of Respiratory Care.
  • The incumbent shall hold current certificates from the American Heart Association (AHA) in Basic Life Support (or Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
  • The incumbent shall have a minimum of three years of respiratory therapy experience in the critical care setting in an acute care or academic medical facility.
