Registered Nurse (RN) - Duke University Hospital - 8W MICU

Work Schedule

Full-time position; 36 hours per week.

Three-hour shifts available.

NIGHTS or ROTATING shifts offered.

Position Overview

As a Registered Nurse, you will independently assess and deliver professional nursing care to patients, adhering to physician directives and established protocols. Your role will involve providing nursing services to patients and their families in line with the standards set by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, supervise, and document nursing care utilizing the nursing process, ensuring compliance with physician orders and established guidelines.
  • Delegate tasks and oversee the activities of both licensed and unlicensed care staff.
  • Support fellow nursing personnel in delivering care and assume the role of team leader or charge nurse as required.
  • Monitor and take corrective actions to ensure a safe and effective care environment.
  • Engage in professional development by maintaining competencies and identifying learning opportunities.
  • Act as a mentor to other staff and students, fostering their professional growth.
  • Participate in identifying clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support the team.

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduation from an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is required.
  • Registered nurses hired without a BSN are encouraged to enroll in a BSN program within two years of hire.

Experience

  • A minimum of twelve months of relevant clinical experience is required. Exceptional performers with six months of experience may be considered.

Licensure and Certification

  • Current or compact RN licensure in North Carolina is mandatory. BLS certification is also required.

Skills and Abilities

  • Comprehensive understanding of the roles of registered nurses and support staff.
  • Proficient in applying the nursing process effectively.
  • Ability to assess the needs of patients and their families.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Competence in using technology and software for documentation and care delivery.
