Job Overview

About Our Organization

Ädelbrook Inc. operates a licensed residential treatment program recognized by the Department of Children and Families, catering to young individuals up to the age of 21. Our program is accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA) and is dedicated to providing comprehensive services for youth diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, alongside various cognitive, communication, sensory, and behavioral challenges. A primary objective of our residential treatment is to facilitate significant therapeutic progress, enabling a smooth transition to less intensive care settings such as family homes, foster care, or community living environments. Participants in our residential program may also access our licensed educational services at the Adelbrook Academy, conveniently located adjacent to the residential facilities. Funding for Ädelbrook's services is provided through the Department of Children and Families (DCF), the Department of Developmental Services (DDS), and local school districts.

Position Summary:

The Behavioral Technician plays a crucial role in offering guidance, mentorship, and training in social and life skills to youth residing in our program who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and related conditions. This position is responsible for maintaining a nurturing and therapeutic environment while employing trauma-informed care practices. The technician will execute therapeutic activities aimed at fostering the development of positive alternative behaviors among the youth. This role may involve the application of behavior management strategies and, when necessary, the use of Physical Management Techniques (PMT) to ensure the safety of the young individuals and others in the environment. This is a full-time, non-exempt role reporting to the Assistant Director for Support Services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Observe and assess residents' behaviors while cultivating therapeutic relationships to support the implementation of Positive Behavioral Support Plans (PBSP).
  • Instruct youth in alternative behaviors, promoting the development of internal strengths through proactive reinforcement and effective behavioral strategies.
  • Utilize PMT techniques as a last resort to maintain a safe and therapeutic living environment.
  • Teach essential daily living skills and assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) to promote independence.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation through the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Collect and maintain records of Antecedent, Behavior, and Consequence (ABC) data, documenting behavior data comprehensively.
  • Collaborate with leadership and treatment team members, actively participating in the treatment planning process.
  • Organize and facilitate recreational activities, aligning them with the individual treatment needs of residents.
  • Transport residents to off-site activities, appointments, and meetings.
  • Assist residents in meal preparation.
  • Participate in all required training sessions provided by the agency.
  • Adhere to the agency's Code of Ethics, demonstrating exemplary conduct by following established policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Support Supervisor, including mandated overtime.

Qualifications:

A minimum of an Associate's degree in psychology, social work, or a related human services field is required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred. Candidates should have at least one year of experience working with youth who are emotionally disturbed or behaviorally disordered, including those with pervasive developmental disorders (PDDs). Certifications in CPR/AED, Physical Management Techniques (PMT), and Trauma-Informed Care are advantageous but not mandatory. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are essential for ensuring the safety of the youth and compliance with agency insurance requirements. The ability to work effectively with youth and colleagues from diverse backgrounds is crucial.
