Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Overnight Behavioral Support Technician (OBST) plays a crucial role in ensuring the therapeutic care and safety of residents during the night shift. The ideal candidate will exemplify positive role modeling in interactions with the youth under their care. Assigned to a specific Residential House, the OBST facilitates a smooth transition for the youth from the residential program to the Learning Center each morning.

This role requires proficient crisis communication skills, behavior management techniques, and the ability to implement physical restraint methods (utilizing Physical Management Techniques as a last resort) to safeguard the well-being of the residents and others.

The OBST will report directly to the Assistant Director for Support Staff. Due to staffing needs, this position may require mandatory shifts. This is a full-time, non-exempt role that necessitates staying awake throughout the entire shift.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Observe and assess residents' behaviors while fostering therapeutic relationships to support the implementation of Positive Behavioral Support Plans (PBSP).
  • Guide youth in learning alternative behaviors and assist them in developing internal strengths through proactive reinforcement and effective behavioral strategies.
  • Employ PMT techniques (as a last resort) to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment within the residence. Responsible for teaching essential life skills and assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) to promote independence.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of all relevant information through the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Collect and maintain Antecedent, Behavior, and Consequence (ABC) data, thoroughly documenting behavioral incidents using appropriate logs and reports.
  • Collaborate effectively with leadership and treatment team members, actively participating in the treatment planning process.
  • Organize and lead recreational activities during leisure time, aligning with the house schedule and individual treatment needs of the residents.
  • Transport residents to various activities, appointments, and meetings as needed.
  • Assist residents in meal preparation.
  • Participate in all mandatory agency training sessions.
  • Adhere to the agency's Code of Ethics, demonstrating exemplary role modeling by following established policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Support Supervisor, including mandatory overtime when necessary.

Qualifications:

A minimum of an Associate's degree in psychology, social work, or a related human services field, along with at least one year of experience working with emotionally disturbed or behaviorally disordered youth, is required.

A Bachelor's degree is preferred. Candidates must be willing to learn and implement the components of a PBSP. Certification in Physical Management Techniques (PMT) and Trauma-Informed Care is mandatory, as well as completion of online training in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), mandated reporting, professional boundaries, CPR, and First Aid. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are essential for ensuring the safety of the youth and compliance with the agency's insurance requirements. The ability to work effectively with youth and colleagues from diverse backgrounds is also required.
