Position Summary

The Compliance and Approvals Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring that Clean Earth operates within the boundaries of regulatory permits and health and safety standards. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including:

  • Conducting technical evaluations of projects proposed for facility acceptance.
  • Reviewing sampling results and facility approvals.
  • Performing inspections and maintaining documentation to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

This role is characterized as a working manager position, requiring a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Familiarity with industry concepts and practices is essential, as the role demands significant experience and judgment to achieve objectives. The manager will also engage in analytical laboratory tasks as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Examine testing protocols, site histories, and waste descriptions for contaminated materials under consideration for facility acceptance.
  • Assist in the approval process for new and ongoing projects, ensuring compliance with acceptance criteria and maintaining accurate records.
  • Evaluate incoming projects for completeness and adherence to permit requirements, approving jobs in the internal system and communicating with clients as necessary.
  • Oversee proper sampling of processed materials, ensuring compliance with permit sampling frequency.
  • Review post-treatment sample data to confirm adherence to permitted treatment standards.
  • Ensure facility permits are regularly reviewed and compliance with permit conditions is verified.
  • Maintain compliance records in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and submit quarterly and annual reports to regulatory bodies as mandated.
  • Conduct compliance reviews and risk assessments to support operational safety.
  • Perform environmental health and safety inspections and maintain relevant documentation.
  • Schedule and conduct necessary EH&S training for employees.
  • Manage and uphold EH&S compliance programs, including but not limited to LOTO, Hazard Communication, and Respiratory Protection.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and encourage safe working practices.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures related to health and safety.
Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or Environmental Health and Safety.
  • 2-5 years of experience in an Environmental, Health, and Safety role.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • General knowledge of regulatory compliance (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
  • Willingness to wear company-provided personal protective equipment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Aptitude for learning and utilizing various software for EHS compliance tracking.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Skill in tactfully communicating sensitive information.
