Position Overview:

The Manager of Science and Engineering Services is accountable for the execution of scientific and engineering initiatives. This role serves as the primary representative of Amentum in engagements with relevant customer stakeholders, possessing the authority to make and uphold commitments.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Oversee departmental personnel, ensuring adequate training, coordinating workloads, priorities, and schedules to guarantee timely and effective task completion, while monitoring and assessing staff performance.

+ Strategically plan, organize, and manage scientific and engineering operations to fulfill customer and contractual obligations.

+ Formulate, implement, and uphold policies, plans, and procedures pertinent to scientific and engineering practices, aligning with industry best practices.

+ Direct support for scientific teams, encompassing research and technical assistance for various projects, field experiments, laboratory studies, and database management; facilitate the dissemination of research and educational materials; and maintain websites and prepare reports.

+ Supervise research support activities, including direct research functions and ancillary support such as technical and programmatic evaluations.

+ Foster collaborative environments that enable remote scientific collaboration utilizing advanced data visualization, modeling, social networking, and other innovative tools.

+ Manage the recruitment of top-tier scientific collaborators and specialists across diverse disciplines to address the evolving demands of rapidly advancing fields.

+ Facilitate the peer review process, which includes preparing scientific and technical summary packages that may encompass background information, scientific rationale, proposer qualifications, technical experience, results, and references.

+ Provide scientific and technical assistance for laboratory, field, and flight research initiatives.

+ Ensure adherence to ethical standards in research, including bioethics for human and animal subjects, planetary sustainability, and synthetic biology considerations.

+ Lead Amentum's efforts in the comprehensive planning, formulation, and execution of technology projects and related tasks.

+ Assist in requirements analysis, technology evaluations, and trade studies, integrating these into technology planning, investment strategies, and development initiatives.

+ Support the development and demonstration of laboratory and prototype hardware from concept through operational phases, including system design, architecture, and hardware assembly and testing.

+ Promote the advancement of innovative technologies, such as advanced manufacturing, life support systems, space biotechnology, operating systems, payloads, sensors, micro- and small-satellites, and architectural designs.

+ Identify and provide subject matter experts as necessary to aid in experimental design, research execution, proposal reviews, facilities design assessments, and any other activities requiring specialized expertise.

+ Compile and distribute reports in compliance with CDRL requirements.

+ Establish and maintain communication with other Amentum managers, customers, subcontractor management, and other on-site contractors as needed.

+ Promote a culture of Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) where all employees are committed to maintaining a work environment that safeguards personnel, property, and the environment.

+ Ensure that team members adhere to Amentum's Quality Policy and fulfill their responsibilities in accordance with applicable quality standards.

+ Perform additional duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications:

+ US citizenship is required for unescorted access to designated work areas.

+ BA/BS degree in Engineering or a relevant scientific/technical discipline.

+ A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience with progressive responsibility.

+ Previous supervisory experience is essential.
