Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team. As a Mechanical Engineer at Aerodyne Industries, you will be responsible for performing a variety of mechanical engineering assignments to support project development, design, operations, installation, and maintenance of mechanical equipment and systems. These systems are located at the Kennedy Space Center - at locations throughout the site, including at/around space flight hardware processing facilities, launch pad support buildings and facilities, engineering and administrative support buildings and other types of industrial and related support facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Perform design development, analysis, or review tasks without supervision and work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
  2. Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends related to mechanical engineering and mentor less experienced engineers.
  3. Provide onsite technical guidance as needed for new or existing equipment installation and/or modifications that require mechanical engineer expertise and exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to come to a solution.
Maintenance:
  1. Revise and add new asset information in Maximo database for assigned equipment per MAR (Maintenance Action Request) process.
  2. Develop and maintain job plans and PMs for assigned equipment in accordance with launch and processing operations, NASA-STD-5008B and industry standard requirements.
  3. Address and justify preventive maintenance deferrals of assigned equipment.
  4. Conduct site visits to investigate system problems, propose solutions and provide recommendations to restore systems.
  5. Support shop technicians in troubleshooting issues related to assigned equipment as needed.
  6. Provide and review technical expertise for technical anomalies as they arise. Resolve and document failure anomalies regarding assigned equipment.
  7. Prepare and review Technical Anomaly reports and presentations documenting problems, concerns, and resolutions for assigned equipment to the Engineering Review Board.
Readiness:
  1. Develop and present or represent mission related presentations to the NASA and/or EGS customer as required to present support readiness or failure concerns.
  2. Perform readiness assessments of assigned equipment and systems.
Project Support:
  1. Coordinate and work closely with requester, customers, other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements.
  2. Direct interface and liaison with internal and external customers at all levels from concept to final design and commissioning activities, design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications.
  3. Support development of technical proposals, statements of work and/or provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work.
  4. Develop task order requirements to NASA to complete Operations & Maintenance Documentation (OMD) updates per specific, contracted timeframes. OMD updates could be on drawings or job plans for assigned equipment/systems.
  5. Coordinate and communicate effectively with CAD drafters, Design Engineers, or shop personnel by written or verbal means.
  6. Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
Requirements:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related scientific field with 10+ years of job-related experience and preferred to have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering test or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related scientific field with 8+ years of job-related experience and preferred to have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering test and/or 16+ years relevant experience with no 4-year degree.
  2. Good communication and analytical skills.
  3. Knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (i.e. CADD, AutoCAD, MicroStation, SKM, ETAP, PLC interface software, etc.).
  4. Working Knowledge of PLC control logic diagrams preferred.
  5. Has a wide-range of experience and uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Additional working knowledge of computer systems and building automation systems such as:
    • Understanding of Modbus protocol
    • Troubleshooting skills for control circuits
    • Able to review and understand PLC software code for HVAC equipment control
    • Able to interrupt and draft sequence of operations for HVAC equipment
  2. Knowledge of computer systems of one or more of the following Building Automation Systems:
    • Andover (Continuum Software)
    • LoNworks (working knowledge of LonMaker, LonServer, using LNS tools)
    • Honeywell (CARE)
    • Johnson Metasys
    • Carrier iVu
    • Ecostruxure
  3. May require some limited travel.
  4. May require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

This position involves work typical of an office environment with no unusual hazards; occasional lifting to 20 pounds; constant sitting with use of computer terminal; constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents; constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication; constant mental alertness; must possess planning/organizing skills and must be able to work under deadlines. Field work will consist primarily of site walk downs in support of corrosion planning. Site hazard training and Personal Protective Equipment are provided.
