Position Overview:
The Mechanical Facilities Engineer III is responsible for the design and implementation of HVAC and plumbing/piping systems across a diverse array of critical and supportive projects. This role will primarily operate during standard business hours, with the potential for hybrid work arrangements after acclimatization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive planning, execution, and coordination of HVAC and plumbing design tasks, including calculations, process flow diagrams, and layout of mechanical systems.
- Create detailed mechanical construction specifications, inspection plans, and system design documentation.
- Utilize standard engineering techniques and criteria to manage less complex project features while applying judgment for more intricate assignments.
- Perform quality assurance evaluations on engineering designs to ensure compliance with project standards.
- Assist in the preparation of project proposals, including mechanical scopes, budget forecasts, and timelines.
- Engage with government clients at various levels to present and discuss design concepts.
The Mechanical Facilities Engineer III will play a vital role within a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with architects and engineers to produce comprehensive design packages, including drawings and specifications. This position offers significant leadership opportunities, including task delegation and coordination with engineers and support staff. Occasional travel to project sites or other company offices may be necessary.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is mandatory; Engineering Technology degrees are not acceptable.
- A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience is required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is essential.
- Capability to obtain a Department of Defense security clearance is necessary.
- Proven experience in the design of HVAC and plumbing/piping systems, including various engineering calculations.
- Experience in selecting and sizing HVAC and plumbing/piping equipment is required.
- Strong proficiency in drafting mechanical construction specifications.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel is expected.
- Experience with HVAC design software, such as Trane Trace, and knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD is preferred.
- Understanding of ASHRAE, SMACNA, and NFPA standards is required.
- Knowledge of IMC, IPC, and IBC codes is essential.
- U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.
