Job Summary

The Chief Financial Officer at National Institute for Children's Health Quality is responsible for overseeing all financial systems and fiscal records, including the monthly close and annual audit. This role involves developing and implementing accounting policies and procedures to ensure financial transactions are executed and documented in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and funder requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of accounting operations, including the monthly and year-end closes.
  • Supervise Senior Financial Manager and Accounts Payable Coordinator, providing oversight, coaching, and development for all supervisees.
  • Oversee all transactions related to general ledger, receivables, payable's, payroll, capital assets, prepaid expenses, and all bank transactions.
  • Analyze NICHQ's financial position, comparing it to the budget, investigating variances, and making recommendations to executive management.
  • Lead the company-wide annual budgeting process and support the Senior Financial Manager in helping project managers through their budgeting and financial planning process.
  • Prepare and distribute a standard monthly reporting package for senior management, including budget vs. actual variance analysis for the current month and year-to-date, balance sheets, and cash management reports.
  • Ensure that contracts and bills are reviewed monthly in accordance with terms of respective contracts.
  • Verify that all financial reports required by funders are completed, accurate, and submitted on time.
  • Responsible for annual audit, including preparation of all supporting schedules and coordination with auditors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or accounting strongly preferred; a CPA is a plus.
  • Experience managing federal and state grants and contracts is required.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to see and communicate the big picture.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a focus on customer service.
  • Ability to function independently within a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Excellent organization skills and demonstrated ability to develop timelines and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Extremely reliable and trustworthy.
