As a Lead Admissions Specialist, you will operate under the guidance of the Transfer Center and Patient Placement Supervisor. This role encompasses responsibilities as both a Principal Admitting Worker for Transfer Center operations and as a Patient Placement Coordinator for patient admissions.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough screening of incoming patient transfers to ensure a smooth admission process.
- Process transfer requests and admissions while confirming insurance eligibility and managing follow-ups on inpatient authorizations.
- Provide financial counseling to patients and their families, clearly explaining their financial responsibilities.
- Serve as an ambassador for our services, significantly impacting the patient experience within our Medical Center.
- Foster a collaborative work environment by promoting effective communication and mutual respect among team members, physicians, and the public.
- Manage financial counselor duties, including assessing patient liabilities for emergent, urgent, and self-pay cases, and securing necessary authorizations.
- Act as the initial point of contact for incoming patient transfer requests and direct admissions.
- Complete Transfer Center intake, registration details, and financial clearance.
- Oversee admission reconciliation for units, updating patient classifications, and ensuring financial clearance.
- Address time-sensitive issues related to patient flow, utilizing expertise in admission, transfer, and discharge systems.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of two years of experience as an Admitting Worker, including two years at a Senior Admitting Worker level, or an Associate's degree coupled with two years of relevant experience.
- Proficient understanding of health insurance eligibility, authorization requirements, and reimbursement policies.
- Experience in managing admissions, discharges, and transfers.
- Familiarity with office equipment and basic computer skills, with a typing speed of at least 30 words per minute.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills for data assessment and recommendations.
- Capacity to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment while adhering to instructions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely.
- Strong customer service orientation and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse staff and patient population.
- Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual skills.
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with government program regulations.
