Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Admissions, Transfer Programs, the Transfer Admissions Specialist plays a critical role in identifying potential transfer students and providing admissions-related information to the general public. This position requires a strong focus on strengthening the transfer pipeline for underrepresented populations and underserved communities, including California community colleges with low transfer rates to UC, in support of the statewide Student Academic Preparation and Educational Partnerships (SAPEP) initiative.
Key Responsibilities- Identify and engage with potential transfer students, providing admissions-related information and support.
- Develop and implement recruitment programs to strengthen the transfer pipeline for underrepresented populations and underserved communities.
- Collaborate with campus colleagues, high school and community college counselors, and other stakeholders to promote UC San Diego's transfer programs.
- Review and evaluate applications for transfer admission, using professional judgment and comprehensive knowledge of educational processes.
- Provide admissions counseling and support to prospective students, admitted and denied applicants, and current UC San Diego undergraduates.
- Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with schools, universities, community organizations, and other institutions to promote UC San Diego's transfer programs.
- Assess workload, prioritize tasks, and meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment with changing demands and minimal supervision.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or three years of experience in undergraduate admissions, student advising, or student counseling.
- Thorough knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population, including multicultural and non-traditional populations.
- Ability to interpret and communicate University policies and procedures to prospective students and the public.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to provide excellent constituent/customer service in all interactions.
- Ability to develop recruitment programs, design effective materials, and independently organize and implement informational programs for students and parents, counselors, community-based organizations, and the general public.
- Experience working with transfer student populations and their unique needs.
- Familiarity with educational trends, common and best practices at post-secondary higher education institutions across the nation.
- Knowledge of admission-related technology, including CRM systems, and ability to efficiently utilize technology and data to execute responsibilities.
This position requires working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven office environment with minimal supervision. The ability to maintain confidentiality, discretion, and exercise good judgment in handling sensitive and confidential matters is essential.
