Job Summary

The Medical and Surgery Dermatology Health Technician is a vital member of the Dermatology team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. This role requires a high level of expertise and attention to detail in providing support to dermatologists during patient consultations and surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepares exam rooms for patient care, ensuring a clean and organized environment.
  • Assists dermatologists during patient consultations and surgical procedures, including prepping, positioning, and handling instruments and supplies.
  • Maintains high fidelity procedures for managing dermatology specimens within the clinic, labeling, and preparing specimens for transfer to the pathology department.
  • Provides patient education and information regarding surgical procedures, contacts patients prior to surgical visits, and maintains high-quality procedures for obtaining surgical images.
  • Supports the Medical Dermatology and Surgery Dermatology Coordinators, maintains the dermatology surgery suite and medical clinic areas, and assesses medical and surgical equipment needs.
Requirements
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
  • Examples of specialized experience include preparing exam rooms for patient care, preparing and maintaining sterile fields for dermatology surgery procedures, and handling instruments, supplies, and equipment during dermatology surgery procedures.
  • Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-06 level, with a successful completion of one year of full-time graduate education considered equivalent to one year of specialized experience.
Working Conditions

The work required does not inherently include any physical requirements essential for successful job performance that could not otherwise be performed with accommodation or workplace adjustment. A pre-placement physical examination is not required.
