Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Wildlife Furbearer Program Assistant. In this role, you will assist in the management and conservation of furbearing species, including data entry, phone calls, and fieldwork.

Responsibilities
  • Enter and organize data into computer files, including furbearer sighting reports, necropsy data, and furbearer harvest reports.
  • Answer phone calls and emails from the public, providing technical assistance and advice on resolving human-bear conflicts.
  • Conduct radio-telemetry on collared animals and transport and set bear traps at sites of human-bear conflicts.
  • Assist with chemically immobilizing, tagging, and aversive conditioning of black bears.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Requirements
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • Experience with radio-telemetry, track and sign identification, and camera grid maintenance.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to transport equipment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with chemical immobilization and operating handheld GPS units.
  • Experience assisting with permitting and addressing human-wildlife conflicts.
  • Ability to maintain a positive work ethic in a professional environment.
Special Requirements
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to obtain and retain a Basic First Aid Certificate.
  • Incumbents performing lifeguard services must have and retain an American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguarding Certification.
Physical Requirements
  • Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class.
  • Incumbents performing lifeguard services must be able to demonstrate American Red Cross (ARC) waterfront lifeguarding swimming skills.
