Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Chief Operating Officer to lead our hospital operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for building a culture of excellence, developing and implementing standards and programs, and achieving hospital goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare administration, leadership, and management, with a proven track record of success in driving operational excellence and improving patient outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement short and long-term planning objectives to ensure the continued growth of the hospital and provision of healthcare services required by the community
  • Create an environment and culture that fosters the implementation of organizational goals and strategic plan
  • Assume responsibilities of the Chief Executive Officer in their absence and represent the hospital at various external meetings and committees
  • Collaborate with leadership to realize operational strategies and outcomes
  • Retain authority and accountability for the development and implementation of the organization plan for patient care and scope of services
  • Play a key role in developing a strong customer service orientation to improve relationships with internal and external customers
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, TJC Standards, and laws governing healthcare operations
  • Participate in facility planning, evaluation of new programs, and promotion of centers of excellence
  • Promote appropriate utilization of services through active participation in business development
  • Provide expertise to physicians and staff on essential steps for developing affiliated group practices and strategically addressing operational issues
  • Implement managed care contracting strategies to increase patient/payor satisfaction and market share
  • Enhance hospital approach to managed care that is appropriate within the context of both the organization and the community
  • Insure clinical needs of the hospital are met through coordination with nursing directors and CNO
  • Assist in medical staff activities, including representation at medical staff committees and coordination of medical policies
  • Assume responsibility for the coordination of clinical process management and clinical case management activities
  • Implement effective programs to measure, assess, and improve the quality of patient care
  • Make fundamental clinical improvements using comparative information and benchmarking
  • Organize functions in areas of responsibility through organization design and delegation of duties
  • Monitor overall productivity of respective areas of responsibility and improve productivity through consolidation of activities and delegation of functions
  • Oversee the management of services contracted to third parties
  • Conduct periodic cost-benefit analysis to ascertain if services remain in the hospital's best interest
  • Coordinate financial management activities in conjunction with the CFO
  • Use outcomes data and clinical/operational benchmarks to measure improvement and manage utilization of resources
Qualifications
  • Masters degree in healthcare administration or a closely related field
  • Minimum of ten (10) years administrative management experience
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make decisions quickly
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively with physicians, staff, and external partners
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare operations, finance, and regulatory requirements
