We are looking for a Lead Electrical Engineering Project Manager to enhance our team at HOK. This role involves overseeing the successful execution of significant construction projects, which includes guiding and mentoring a team of engineers within a specific discipline, formulating concepts and budgets, and delivering comprehensive designs.

Strategic Initiatives

  • Identifies opportunities to enhance Electrical Engineering design and processes.
  • Stays informed about emerging trends in Electrical Engineering design and their application to our projects.
  • Guides the development of Revit tools to boost productivity.

Project Management and Technical Advancement

  • Devotes 10% of time to Project Management and Technical Advancement initiatives.
  • Handles project manpower estimates, communications, budget oversight, deliverable organization, and project delivery standards.
  • Develops standard details, specifications, and drawing standards, including Revit standards in collaboration with the BIM team.
  • Monitors industry and technology trends, recommending changes in approach and services as necessary.
  • Enhances analytical processes and documentation, common solutions, and critical solutions.
  • Promotes a commitment to both external and internal client service.

Project Responsibilities

  • Allocates 90% of time to engineering projects, particularly large or complex ones.
  • Manages project engineering from concept and schematic design through to construction documents, construction, and commissioning.
  • Provides design input and reviews for other engineers' projects.
  • Engages in client meetings, fostering positive relationships with current and prospective clients.
  • Contributes as a team member, offering ideas and solutions, and leading discussions when appropriate.
  • Conducts site surveys to determine engineering strategies for renovations and document existing systems.
  • Visits project sites during construction to assess quality, progress, and compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Performs project reviews at all design stages.
  • Ensures quality and timely project delivery within budget constraints.
  • Mentors engineering staff throughout projects.

Business Development Support

  • As needed, assists with Business Development, including drafting key project aspects and presenting work at industry events, as well as preparing fee estimates and assumptions for Electrical Engineering on potential projects.

Performance Metrics

  • Measured by the efficiency and profitability of the Engineering Discipline in the office or region and its contributions to overall firm success.
  • Quality of design solutions, assessed by integration level, unique solutions, sustainability goals, and peer recognition.
  • Quality of work produced, evaluated by design completeness, absence of change orders, and client satisfaction.
  • Cohesiveness of the discipline team, reflected in work share ease, quality consistency, delivery tools and standards, and team communication.
  • Client repeat business and contributions to acquiring new work.

Required Skills

Project Management

  • Proven ability to engineer and deliver projects ranging from $20m to over $80m.
  • Capacity to collaborate with various practices within HOK.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills, with an understanding of industry communication protocols.
  • Ability to inspire owners and designers.
  • Set, monitor, and adhere to budgets.
  • Leadership skills in project teams.
  • Strong project management capabilities.
  • Understanding of multi-disciplinary coordination issues.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and technicians.

Technical Expertise

  • Creative problem-solving skills for complex challenges.
  • Proficiency in Revit.
  • Experience in designing electrical systems for complex buildings and campuses.
  • Expertise in mission-critical systems, collaborating with clients to establish performance criteria.
  • Knowledge in designing Fire Alarm and Life Safety systems for complex projects and controls strategies.

Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering; Master's degree preferred.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
  • NCEES record preferred for registration in any state.
  • LEED credential required within six months of employment.
  • Experience delivering projects valued over $20m, up to $80m in construction value.
  • Expertise in all aspects of the discipline, with a track record of recent successful major projects exceeding $100m, including one project over $250m.
  • Minimum of 7 years of project engineering experience, from design development to project completion, including at least one high-profile project.
  • Cover letter detailing interest in HOK, professional background, and unique qualifications for the role.
  • Experience leading or participating in integrated teams.
  • Experience in designing and delivering LEED Silver or higher projects.
  • Familiarity with complex analysis tools for electrical design.
  • Experience with architecturally significant buildings is advantageous.
  • Experience in various project types, including commercial, corporate, institutional, civic, justice, aviation, science & technology, and healthcare sectors.
  • Experience with architecturally significant buildings, controls and commissioning, central plants, multi-emergency generator systems, and mission-critical buildings is a plus.
