Mechanical Plant Supervisor

Overview
The role involves overseeing maintenance teams responsible for the repair and upkeep of mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and hydraulic systems across various production equipment, including processing, blowmolding, filling, and material handling machinery. This position requires a hands-on approach, utilizing blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications while employing hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and precision measuring instruments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead maintenance personnel in conducting visual inspections and auditory assessments of machinery to identify malfunction causes.
- Guide teams in dismantling equipment to access and diagnose issues, ensuring the use of appropriate tools and techniques.
- Supervise the inspection and measurement of components to detect wear, misalignment, or other defects, facilitating the replacement of worn or faulty parts.
- Direct the re-alignment and adjustment of machinery components, including spindles and clutches, ensuring compliance with technical diagrams.
- Manage the installation of new piping for air and hydraulic systems, including measuring, cutting, threading, and fitting.
- Oversee the testing of machinery post-repair to ensure operational effectiveness and safety.
- Perform welding and fabrication tasks as needed, utilizing brazing, soldering, and welding techniques.
Working Conditions
The successful candidate must be prepared to work in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, and in humid environments for extended periods. Physical capabilities should include bending, crawling, climbing, and working at various heights while maintaining a clean and safe workspace.
Technical Expertise
Familiarity with boilers, refrigeration systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and electrical controls is essential. The candidate should possess strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to provide clear written and verbal instructions.
Core Qualifications
- Proven experience in maintenance supervision, managing a diverse team of technicians.
- Proficiency in arc and heli-arc welding.
- Extensive knowledge of 3-phase electrical systems and controls.
- Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot PLCs and HMIs effectively.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with sanitary welding.
- Knowledge of various electrical signals and systems.
- Familiarity with ammonia compressors and associated refrigeration components.
- Understanding of steam boiler operations.
- Ability to troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Experience with CMMS for maintenance management.
