Position Overview

The role involves overseeing maintenance staff responsible for the repair and upkeep of mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and hydraulic systems across various machinery, including processing, blow molding, filling, and material handling equipment. The Plant Engineer will interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and specifications while utilizing hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and precision measuring instruments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise maintenance personnel in conducting visual inspections and auditory assessments of machinery to identify malfunction causes.
  • Guide technicians in dismantling equipment to access problem areas, using appropriate tools for inspection and measurement.
  • Direct the replacement of worn or defective components in drive mechanisms or hydraulic systems.
  • Oversee the realignment and adjustment of machine components, ensuring proper installation of new piping when necessary.
  • Test machinery and equipment post-repair to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Utilize welding techniques for repairs as needed.

Work Environment

The successful candidate must be adaptable to extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, and be comfortable working in humid conditions for extended periods. Physical demands include bending, crawling, climbing, and performing tasks at various heights while maintaining a clean and safe workspace.

Technical Expertise

Proficiency in managing and understanding various systems, including boilers, refrigeration, hydraulics, and electrical systems, is essential. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary for providing clear instructions and completing reports.

Core Qualifications

  • Prior experience in maintenance supervision is essential.
  • Welding skills, particularly in arc and heli-arc welding, are required.
  • Extensive knowledge of three-phase wiring and electrical controls is necessary.
  • Familiarity with ammonia refrigeration systems is preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) is crucial.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with sanitary welding is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of various electrical systems, including process signals and AC/DC systems, is beneficial.
  • Understanding of refrigeration components such as compressors and heat exchangers is a plus.
  • Familiarity with steam-fired boiler operations is desirable.
  • Ability to troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic systems is preferred.
  • Experience with project management and regulatory compliance is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Computer Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) is beneficial.

This position requires strong leadership capabilities to effectively manage maintenance teams and ensure operational excellence.
