Key Responsibilities- Own and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment in our department.
- Identify and drive out losses (failures and breakdowns) within equipment and department.
- Understand all inputs and outputs to the department and ensure seamless operations.
- Collaborate with operating technicians to optimize workflow and efficiency.
- Train technicians on operations and maintenance skills to enhance knowledge and expertise.
- Sign permits for hot work, line break, and confined space entry to ensure safety protocols are followed.
- Provide backup support for operational roles as needed.
- Participate in Plant Safety Systems and contribute to a safe working environment.
- Participate in Change Management and the Plant Improvement System to drive continuous improvement.
- Continuously train and improve within the department, cross-train with other maintenance resources, and stay up-to-date with industry developments.
- Be on call to provide off-shift support as needed.
- Provide input to team leaders regarding mechanical and electrical efficiencies and effectiveness.
- Understand all unit operations in the Industrial area and be able to explain form and function.
- Qualify to operate all production equipment and systems.
- Meet with Education & Training Coordinators to understand Plant policies and systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical, instrumentation, controls, and mechanical systems, including:
- Power distribution motor control centers (MCC)
- Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) / Human Machine Interface (HMI)
- Variable Frequency Drive / Servo Drives / Instrumentation
- Ethernet Controls / Networking / Switches
- Motor Starters / Input Output (I/O) Systems / AC / DC Voltage
- Steam supply and condensate return systems
- Centrifugal pumps, positive displacement pumps, valves, piping systems
- Gear boxes, bearings, shafts, mechanical seals
- Shaft packing materials
- Hydraulic lifting and rotational systems
- Heat exchangers and condensing equipment
- Exhibit a positive attitude, be eager to teach and learn, and behave as a role model for Mechanical, Electrical, and General Plant Safety.
- Participate in Quality Systems and exhibit strong communication skills to effectively communicate with all members of the Plant.
- Exhibit strong troubleshooting skills, display strong documentation skills, and demonstrate technical expertise in hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop tools.
- Demonstrate PM completion, tracking, and developing skills.
- Be willing to work a flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Education/Experience:
- High-school degree or equivalent is required.
- A two-year degree or technical degree is preferred.
- Other:
- Minimum age of 18
- At least five years of previous manufacturing / technical experience OR a technical degree is required.
- Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, GMP's and general instructions as well as carry out both oral and written instruction.
- Work consistently with a team and demonstrate conflict resolution, problem solving, time management, goal setting, priority setting, and process improvement.
- Be willing to work a flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends.
The physical demands described below represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions and duties of this job.
- Required to stand and lift frequently.
- Required to use hands and arms for reaching/handling purposes.
- Required to stand and walk at minimum 70% of the time.
- Must be able to work 12-hour shifts.
- Must be able to work any shift (day or night) including weekends and holidays if a business need arises.
- Must occasionally lift/push/pull or carry up to fifty (50) pounds and should be able to lift 30-35 pounds on a frequent basis.
- Must be able to squat or kneel and to bend on a frequent basis.
- Must be able to tolerate exposure to food allergens.
- Must be able to climb steps on a frequent basis as well as stand on or move around on platforms, equipment, and concrete floors.
