Position Overview

Position Title: Adjunct Instructor

Salary Range: Compensation is determined based on UCSB salary scales. The estimated annual salary for a full-time role at 100% time is approximately $66,259-$76,814. The percentage of appointments may vary.

Percent Time: Varies by course offering.

Application Window:

The Teacher Education Program at the University of California, Santa Barbara is seeking applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach various courses as openings arise.

Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as necessary. The number of available positions will fluctuate each quarter based on departmental needs. These roles are part-time and variable in terms of percentage time.

The application pool will remain open to accommodate departmental requirements.

Important Note: The use of a lecturer pool does not guarantee that a position is available at the time of application.

Anticipated teaching opportunities may include the following specialty areas:

  • Bilingual Education
  • Special Education

Instructors are expected to:

  • Attend all scheduled class sessions.
  • Review, respond to, and evaluate student assignments.
  • Assign grades in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Participate in all course planning meetings.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (required at time of application):

  • Possession of teacher certification in California or equivalent, or a Master's degree in Education or a related field.
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a classroom teacher in public or private schools, or as a higher education instructor.

Additional Qualifications (required at time of appointment):

  • Experience in providing professional development services to educators.
  • Experience mentoring new or pre-service teachers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher in Education or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least one quarter/semester of teaching experience at the college level.
  • Prior experience supervising pre-service teachers.
  • Familiarity with California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP) and Teacher Performance Expectations (TPE).
  • Experience in teacher education or K-12 education settings.
