Overview:
Santa Barbara City College is in search of part-time faculty to instruct Older Adults in Creative Music courses at the School of Extended Learning. The initial noncredit adjunct pay rate is $63.45 per hour for lectures and $47.59 per hour for lab sessions. Instructors with advanced degrees will receive $66.15 per hour for lectures and $49.61 per hour for lab sessions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality instruction while fostering an environment that promotes teaching and learning.
- Encourage open discussions regarding ideas, interests, and issues among students.
- Provide instruction in noncredit courses aligned with course outlines and the college's mission, accommodating various schedules including daytime, evening, and weekend classes.
- Design lesson plans and prepare instructional materials, including syllabi.
- Integrate technology into classroom instruction and monitor student progress, adjusting teaching methods as necessary for effectiveness.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, with either:
(A) Completion of thirty hours or two semester units of coursework focused on the needs of older adults from an accredited institution, which may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment; OR
(B) One year of professional experience working with older adults.
- An Associate degree in a relevant field combined with two years of occupational experience in the subject area, along with sixty hours or four semester units of coursework in understanding the needs of older adults, which may also be completed concurrently during the first year of employment.
- A valid California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential for the subject matter is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience teaching adults who are entering, re-entering, or upskilling in the workforce.
- A demonstrated sensitivity to and respect for a diverse student population.
- The ability to create an inclusive classroom environment that fosters a sense of belonging.
