Overview
Santa Barbara City College is in search of part-time faculty to teach Creative Music courses designed for older adults at the School of Extended Learning.
The initial noncredit adjunct compensation is $63.45 per hour for lectures and $47.59 per hour for lab sessions. For candidates with an advanced degree, the compensation increases to $66.15 per hour for lectures and $49.61 per hour for lab sessions.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality instruction while fostering an environment that promotes learning and encourages open discussions on various topics and interests.
The primary responsibilities of adjunct faculty include curriculum development and teaching.Instruct students in noncredit courses in alignment with course outlines and the college's mission, which may encompass multilevel, daytime, evening, and weekend classes.
Prepare lesson plans and instructional materials, including syllabi. Integrate technology into classroom instruction. Track student progress and adjust teaching methods as necessary for optimal effectiveness.Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the course subject is required, along with one of the following:
1. (A) Completion of thirty hours or two semester units of coursework focused on understanding the needs of older adults from an accredited institution, which may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor;
OR (B) One year of professional experience working with older adults.
OR
2. An associate degree in a field relevant to the course subject
AND
two years of relevant occupational experience;
AND sixty hours or four semester units of coursework in understanding the needs of older adults from an accredited institution, which may also be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience teaching adults who are entering, re-entering, or upskilling in the workforce.
Acknowledgment and respect for the diverse backgrounds of students in the classroom.
Ability to cultivate a sense of belonging and inclusivity among students.
