Surgical Services Technician

Overview:

  • The Certified Surgical Technologist operates under the guidance of a surgeon to ensure the safe and efficient execution of invasive surgical procedures, maintaining a secure operating room environment and ensuring that all equipment is functioning correctly to enhance patient safety.
  • Reports directly to the Unit Supervisor or RN in Charge.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the instruments, supplies, and equipment required during surgical procedures.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipate the surgeon's needs.
  • Guarantee quality patient care throughout the surgical process while vigilantly maintaining the sterile field.
  • Verify the availability of supplies and equipment necessary for the surgical procedure.
  • Prepare by scrubbing, donning a gown, and gloving up.
  • Assemble a sterile table with the required instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions for the procedure.
  • Conduct appropriate counts with the circulator prior to the operation and before closing the incision.
  • Assist in gowning and gloving the surgeon and assistants.
  • Support in draping the sterile field.
  • Pass instruments and other items to the surgeon during the procedure.
  • Uphold the highest standards of sterile technique throughout the procedure.
  • Prepare sterile dressings.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Assist team members with the terminal cleaning of the operating room.
  • Help in preparing the room for the next patient.
Qualifications:
  • Graduation from surgical technology programs accredited by ARC/STSA or recognized institutions by the United States Department of Education (USDE).
  • Current and active certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist with a minimum of one year of surgical tech experience.
