Job Summary

As an ED Technician II at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care in our Emergency Department. Under the direction of physicians and nurses, you will assist in examination and treatment of patients, ensuring their comfort and well-being throughout their stay.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide patient care for all ages, acuities, and conditions, including ensuring age-specific care and responding to cultural needs of patients and families.
  • Establish priorities based on essential patient needs and available unit resources of time, personnel, equipment, and supplies.
  • Document patient care and unit activities in a timely, accurate, and concise manner.
  • Assist with emergency situations, including resuscitation, and apply orthopedic devices, pre-formed splints, and perform splinting, cast removal, and crutch fitting/teaching.
  • Assist patients to/from bathroom, ambulation, and transports using principal body mechanics to prevent injury.
  • Assist physician with pelvic exam and assist with discharge process, reinforcing discharge teaching provided by the nurse or physician.
  • Assist with procedures, including positioning, draping, and prepping, maintaining sterile field, and cardiac monitor surveillance, recognizing, recording, and reporting potentially dangerous rhythm changes and arrhythmias in accordance with established standards and procedures.
Requirements
  • Minimum one (1) year patient care experience in an acute care or prehospital setting.
  • Completion of an Accredited Phlebotomy Program or 18 months of phlebotomy experience within the previous five (5) years in a multi-patient clinical laboratory.
  • Basic Life Support required at hire.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology, application of dressing and splints, basic patient care procedures, and effective communication skills, verbal, written, and listening.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage time, and optimize department flow.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One (1) year of recent emergency department technician experience.
  • Cardiac rhythm identification (telemetry).
  • Six (6) months related experience as an Emergency Medical Technician, Certified Nursing Assistant II, or equivalent.
