Job Overview
The Library Media Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the educational community by assisting patrons in the school library, managing inventory, and ensuring the availability of resources. This position is associated with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).

Key Responsibilities
The following qualifications are required:
  1. A high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Strong communication and customer service abilities.
  3. Capability to maintain confidentiality while fostering trust and collaboration among staff, parents, students, and the community.
  4. Ability to cultivate and sustain professional relationships with diverse stakeholders.
The following qualifications are preferred:
  1. Familiarity with first aid.
  2. Completion of courses in library science.
  3. Understanding of clerical practices, office equipment, and filing systems.
  4. Proficiency in operating both Macintosh and Windows computers.
  5. Knowledge of library-related software applications such as SIRSI, Workflows, Webcat, and Microsoft Office.
  6. Typing skills with accuracy and efficiency.
  7. Capability to perform clerical tasks with independent judgment, precision, and speed.
  8. Ability to learn, interpret, and communicate policies and procedures effectively.
Essential Functions
  1. Maintain an organized and inviting media center, ensuring that instructional materials and services are accessible.
  2. Assist library patrons with inquiries and information access.
  3. Oversee the inventory of the media center's collection, including books, software, and audio-visual materials.
  4. Manage the library network operations.
  5. Organize and shelve books and materials, keeping current shelf lists for new acquisitions and outdated materials.
  6. Utilize various office machines, computers, and instructional technology.
  7. Compile and prepare information, correspondence, and reports related to library operations.
  8. Monitor the scheduling and condition of audio-visual equipment.
  9. Prepare orders for books, periodicals, and supplies.
  10. Supervise student aides in the operation of equipment and library functions.
Physical and Mental Demands
This role requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, and effective communication. Specific visual abilities are necessary. The employee may need to lift items weighing less than 40 lbs and must be able to communicate clearly in both oral and written forms. The ability to manage stress while working with a diverse group of students, parents, and staff in a dynamic environment is essential.

Work Environment
The work is conducted in a professional setting with a variety of individuals possessing different functions and abilities. The employee may be exposed to outdoor conditions and will typically work in a moderate noise level environment.
