Accounting Manager Job Description

Step By Step is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee the financial functions of our organization. As a key member of our Finance and Administration team, you will be responsible for managing the accounting system, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Reporting: Maintain accurate and timely financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • General Ledger Maintenance: Oversee the general ledger, reviewing, reconciling, and balancing accounts, and preparing monthly financial reports.
  • Cash Receipts and Donations: Reconcile donations with the donor database, oversee deposits, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Accounts Payable Oversight: Verify purchases, manage data entry, and track credit card payments and discrepancies.
  • Contract Compliance: Oversee payments to contract staff and ensure compliance.
  • Payroll Management: Maintain personnel and payroll records, process payroll and employee benefits, and ensure accurate filings.
  • Construction Accounting: Oversee accounting for construction projects, including capital asset updates and depreciation schedules.
  • Support for Farm 12 and Fika: Assist with accounting processes and reconciliations between accounting systems.
  • Budget Preparation: Assist in preparing annual budgets and maintaining organizational financial goals.
  • External Accountant Support: Assist with financial analysis and audit preparation.
Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in accounting, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
  • Skills: Proficiency in QuickBooks (or similar software) and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong attention to detail, time management, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent oral and written communication, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot, research issues, and maintain organized records.
  • Confidentiality: Must respect privacy laws, including HIPAA, and maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check.

Compensation:
  • Hourly Rate: $43-50/hour, depending on qualifications.
