Role Summary: The Mortgage Compliance Specialist will offer expertise on relevant local, state, and federal compliance standards. This role involves active participation in the implementation of processes and support for the Consumer Lending division. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of mortgage lending regulations and ensure that regulatory updates are seamlessly integrated into daily operations. A meticulous review of compliance issues will help identify patterns and discrepancies, leading to necessary training interventions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Gather and verify HMDA reporting data within the origination system.
- Ensure accuracy and timely submission of the HMDA LAR on an annual basis.
- Conduct pre-funding and post-closing quality control assessments for both originated and non-originated loans.
- Review and update findings from the monthly New/Existing Customer CIP Exception report.
- Detect trends and discrepancies through quality assessments and implement corrective training to mitigate future issues.
- Investigate and address compliance concerns on loan files to ensure proper submission.
- Collaborate with Production and Servicing teams to provide compliance guidance.
- Support strategic initiatives as a subject matter expert during project development phases.
- Monitor changes in local, state, and federal regulations and assist in the adaptation of new compliance expectations.
- Facilitate internal and external audits and aid in corrective actions based on examination results.
- Responsible for the maintenance and revision of all Consumer Lending reports, procedures, and documentation.
- Assist the Secondary Market Department with loan purchase reviews as necessary.
- Update Indexes and Disclosures on a regular schedule (weekly, monthly, and annually).
Qualifications: To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the essential duties outlined. The following qualifications are indicative of the skills, knowledge, and abilities required.
Education and Experience: An Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical institution, coupled with a minimum of two years of relevant experience or training.
Required Skills:
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational capabilities and meticulous attention to detail.
- Comprehensive understanding of consumer lending products and services.
- Ability to articulate complex loan policies and terms clearly.
- Knowledge of compliance laws, regulations, risks, and taxonomies related to Mortgage Originations, including Regulation Z, ECOA, CRA, HMDA, and Agency Requirements (e.g., FHA/VA).
- Capacity to work both collaboratively and independently; adept at navigating complex organizational structures.
- Advanced analytical capabilities.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software applications.
