Job Overview

Position Summary:

Under the guidance of the Director of Early Childhood Services, the Educational Support Assistant will undertake various responsibilities as directed by the Lead Teacher. This role may involve working in different capacities within the classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reports directly to the Director of Early Childhood Services.
  • Fosters and maintains positive relationships with Ibero staff, associated agencies, community representatives, and parents.
  • Supports Primary Caregivers and/or Head Teachers in delivering a developmentally appropriate educational program.
  • Adheres to Ibero's policies and procedures, New York State regulations, UPK standards, and OCFS regulations.
  • Engages positively and respectfully with children.
  • Ensures the safety of children during all activities.
  • Interacts with children during activities and mealtimes, promoting family-style dining.
  • Guides children calmly during transitions.
  • Maintains a pleasant and safe classroom environment.
  • Assists with minor cleaning tasks as needed.
  • Completes all assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Participates in scheduled staff meetings, parent meetings, training sessions, and daycare center events as required.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding children and families.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the supervisor or designated personnel.

Authority:

The individual must demonstrate resourcefulness and initiative in managing classroom activities and implementing assigned lesson plans.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma with a minimum of 2 years of experience working with children.
  • CDA in Child Development is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of child development, early childhood education, and appropriate disciplinary methods.
  • Experience with infants, toddlers, or preschool-aged children.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Must possess clearance through the NYS Central Registry, a clean police record, and good health.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate program and parent evening and weekend activities.
  • Demonstrates creativity and adaptability.
  • Alternative training and experience may be considered by the President and CEO.

Physical Requirements:

This position may require occasional standing, squatting, and lifting of up to approximately 40 lbs, along with frequent sitting.
