Key Responsibilities:

The Dallas Regional Medical Center is seeking a full-time, day shift Surgical Unit Charge Nurse who possesses empathy and strong communication skills. We foster a collaborative environment that emphasizes positive outcomes and professional development.

The responsibilities of the Surgical Unit Charge Nurse include, but are not limited to:

  • Accountability to the Department Director for nursing staff quality and patient care delivery during the shift, assisting in the daily operations of the unit.
  • Effective utilization of nursing personnel, aiding in scheduling, staffing, and assignments.
  • Providing direction, supervision, and evaluation of staff, along with necessary staff education.
  • Assisting with performance evaluations and related HR activities as needed; assessing supply and equipment availability and ensuring proper functionality.
  • Enhancing patient flow and ensuring efficient admission, discharge, and transfer processes.
  • Regular assessment of patient care delivery and quality documentation; directing staff to implement immediate changes to care plans as necessary.
  • Conducting patient and family interviews upon admission and during rounds to enhance patient experiences and awareness of services.
  • Performing direct patient care within the scope of practice to ensure safety and appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios.
  • Documenting any temporary relief from Charge Nurse duties as directed by the Department Director or designee.

Qualifications:
  • Current and valid state RN License.
  • Current BLS certification upon hire and maintenance of certification.
  • ACLS certification within 30 days of hire and maintenance of certification.
  • PALS certification upon hire and maintenance of certification is preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience of 1-2 years in an acute care surgical setting is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in an acute care operating room is preferred.
  • CNOR certification within 2 years is preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
  • Competency in Sedation Monitoring within 30 days of hire and maintenance of competency.
