POSITION TITLE: Program Assistant

ROLE DESCRIPTION:

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Vergennes is in search of enthusiastic individuals dedicated to working with youth, specifically in our afterschool initiatives for elementary and teenage members.

OUR MISSION:

To empower and inspire all young individuals, particularly those who require our support the most, to achieve their full potential as responsible, productive, and caring citizens.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the guidance of the Club Program Director or designated personnel, Program Assistants are responsible for supporting and overseeing various programs and activities within structured environments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparation for Youth Success: Encourage participation in programs.
  • Design and lead engaging activities and events for club members.
  • Provide mentorship and serve as positive role models for youth.

  • Supervision & Safety: Oversee youth in unstructured areas.
  • Assist Program Leads in executing and supervising programs.
  • Ensure a safe environment by establishing clear rules and expectations.

  • Additional Duties: Participation in special events may be required.
  • Supervision during off-site activities may be necessary.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintain regular communication with Club staff (both professional and volunteer), Club youth, and supervisors to exchange information, address issues, and provide guidance.

External: Uphold a positive reputation and ethical conduct within the community.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This role may involve physical activities such as lifting, bending, standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, reaching, and grasping. The position requires the ability to demonstrate and explain activities to youth and involves moderate exposure to noise, working both indoors and outdoors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED; higher education is preferred.
  • Successful completion of a National Criminal Background Check.
  • Experience working with youth and teens, particularly in group settings, is preferred.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to interact effectively with the public.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications are preferred and must be obtained within six months of hire.

POSITION STATUS: Part Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt
