Position Overview

The Radiologic Mammography Technologist will operate under the guidance of the Radiology supervisor and/or designated personnel. This role involves conducting standard and specialized imaging procedures, preparing patients for examinations, and assisting radiologists as required. The technologist will be responsible for the maintenance and operation of imaging equipment, ensuring compliance with established radiology care standards, and implementing radiation safety measures to minimize exposure for patients and staff. The technologist will also take ownership of their designated responsibilities and adhere to customer service protocols. Additional duties may include quality assurance tasks and performing diagnostic imaging as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Comply with the performance standards, policies, and behaviors established by the organization.
  • Accurately prepare and position patients for specific imaging examinations, ensuring all documentation is complete and adheres to protocol.
  • Manage designated areas and procedures, producing high-quality technical images while reviewing completed exams for accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Assist physicians during imaging procedures as necessary.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks and calibrations on equipment, and manage supply orders.
  • Be available for holiday, overtime, and various shift coverage to ensure consistent and safe operations at the facility.
  • Maintain cleanliness in all work areas and report any equipment malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.
  • Process imaging films or create CDs as required.
  • Perform routine administrative tasks, including patient check-ins and obtaining prior reports.
  • Communicate effectively with radiologists and document any necessary communications.
  • May serve as an instructor or mentor for new staff.
  • Provide professional and courteous service to all patients and staff, upholding the organization's behavioral standards.
  • Introduce oneself to patients and educate them about the imaging procedures being performed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills in patient care, accommodating the unique needs of various age groups, including neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics.
  • Participate in staff meetings and in-service training as required.
  • May rotate coverage to other outpatient locations as needed.
  • Responsibilities and hours may be adjusted based on operational needs.
  • This position is eligible for a certification incentive.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • The Mammographer must have graduated from an accredited radiography program or allied health education institution. NY State DOH Licensure or Limited Permit is required. ARRT registration (RT) is necessary.
  • Advanced Mammography certification is preferred or must be obtained within one year of hire.
  • Completion of 40 hours of mammography training, including anatomy, physiology, QA/QC, and supervised mammography exams.
  • Continuing education requirements must be met as per governing body standards, currently set at 24 ECE credits over two years.
  • 15 category 1 CEUs in mammography within a 36-month period.
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association is required or must be completed within 90 days of hire.
  • Radiation dose pledge compliance will be conducted during orientation.

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • May encounter chemicals necessary for imaging tasks; safety data sheets are accessible through the hospital's resources.
  • Position requires mobility for a significant portion of the time.
  • Must be able to remain stationary for extended periods.
  • Frequent lifting of objects up to 50 pounds and assistance with patient transfers is required.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Must respond to emergency signals and sounds promptly.
  • Continuous operation of computers and imaging equipment is necessary.
  • Ability to focus on detailed tasks despite interruptions.
  • Must comprehend and relate to multiple concepts and remember various tasks throughout the day.

  • Neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
  • Patients with exceptional communication needs or developmental delays.
  • Patients requiring isolation precautions or those at end of life.
  • All populations, including bariatric patients.

Salary Range: ($73,326.24 - $109,989.36)
