We are seeking a highly skilled Claims Examiner to join our team at Markel. As a Claims Examiner, you will play a critical role in the resolution of moderate complexity and moderate exposure claims. This position will have increased responsibility for decision making within their authority and work under general direction from their manager.
Key Responsibilities- Claim Review and Analysis: Confirms coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claims, and analyzes coverage and communicates coverage positions.
- Investigation and Coordination: Conducts, coordinates, and directs investigation into loss facts and extent of damages, and directs and monitors assignments to experts and outside counsel.
- Claim Evaluation and Settlement: Evaluates information on coverage, cause of loss, and damages to determine the extent of insured's exposure, sets reserves within authority or makes claim recommendations concerning reserve changes to manager, and negotiates and settles claims either directly or indirectly.
- Reporting and Compliance: Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information, and adheres to Fair Claims Practices regulations and internal Claims Quality Performance Objectives.
- Team Collaboration: Participates in special projects or assists other team members as requested, and travel to mediations, trials, and conferences as required.
- Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience, and JD, advanced degree, or focused technical degree a plus.
- Certification: Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license, and successful completion of basic insurance courses or achievement of industry designation (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU).
- Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years of claims handling experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, and successful completion of 2 years as a Claims Representative.
- Skill Sets: Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, strong organization and time management skills, ability to deliver outstanding customer service, intermediate skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word), and ability to work in a team environment.
- Competitive Compensation: The national average salary for the Claims Examiner is $54,814 - $76,230 with 20% bonus potential.
